British men’s feet getting bigger

British men’s feet are getting bigger, with the average shoe growing by a size in the last five years, according to sales figures released today.Half a decade ago, the average man’s shoe was a UK size eight but now it is size nine, and demand for size 12 shoes have soared, Debenhams said.
Requests for size 14 and above are also high, with men in Birmingham appearing to have the largest feet.
Liverpool, Belfast, Cardiff and London make up the rest of the top five cities for big-footed men, the fashion department store said.
The figures suggest the average shoe for women also seems to be becoming broader and longer.
Ed Watson, of Debenhams, said: “We’re calling the change Big Foot Britain and all of our figures suggest that the trend is set to continue.”
Mr Watson said demand for size seven shoes was now outstripped by size 12.
He added: “For the first time, we’re considering stocking size 13 as a standard fitting across all of our ranges, and size 14 is a possibility too. Our largest shoe currently available is a size 12.
“In the past, these shoe sizes would have been available only on special order.”

My feet are longer and wider than my Dad’s – he has takes a size UK9 and I am UK11 – sometimes even a UK12 – which is pretty big for someone who is only 5’8”
@Jaytiny: The good news is that you are at least larger than a foot…
My feet are amongst the biggest in my family. And most guys I know are my size or bigger, not really smaller.
