Is the new one any good? I hear 50/50 reports, some saying it’s great, others that it is rubbish.
I though the movie was incredible, and now concider it to be my favorite movie of all time (and I am not much of a movie person either, I actually avoid them). Mind you, there are a lot of personal bais reasons to why I think this: Tim Burton is my favorite director, Helena Bonham Carter is my favorite actress, Alice In Wonderland is one of my all time favorite stories.
The 3D rendering of the character was genious in my opinion. It all fit each character and just enhanced the overall “enhanced reality” feeling that imparts wonderland. Almost every character had this special uniqueness to them that I found partciularly appealing. Ironicly, I found alice’s character to be my least favorite, but I did not dislike her. The surrealness, and the constant dark undertone just mixed together perfectly and created an idealized style for me; balenced light and dark.
My main problem with the movie is they tried to do too much in to short of time. They lead small glimpses into the inner world of each character in more or less equal proportion. The problem is that there are too many characters to do that with. As such it left me wanting more. I like deep character development. I sincerly hope that they make a sequal to this. I feel like they could. The movie elluded to much deeper relationships between the characters, and I very much want to see the development of the relation between the red queen and the white queen. Particularly with focus on the white queen.
Again, I am extremly bais with this because of the inital pieces that went into the movie that made me already like it, but I now concider this to be my favorite movie ever.
i am a biased as well considering my role of the march hare in 7th grade. hehe
Wow, thats a detailed review theworld! I want to go check it out anyway.. maybe see it tonight.
So we went to see it on Friday night, it’s actually pretty good. I was expecting a lot more from it, but it is fun nonetheless. Helena Bonham Carter is awesome.
Just came back from it. Was an interesting film, but had a few parts that just didn’t really fit and were more stupid rather than silly, such as the Mad Hatter dance at the end. It was funny when Alice did it though. There were times when it felt quite epic, but the stupider moments tended to drag it down. It seemed like it couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be a dumbed down comedy or something with a bit more substance, most likely because they wanted to aim it at a variety of audiences.
The concept was interesting, although the constant self doubt of Alice grew a bit weary as I thought it was supposed to be a bit more of an evolution of the story and her character. I wonder how it would have been done other than Tim Burton directing? I do like his work, but I don’t feel that it was his best.
Casting was good, but expected (Depp & Carter), although the relatively unknown actress who played Alice was a nice change. I must say that Depp looks almost exactly like Madonna, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who seemed to think so!
