I was looking on IMDB ( http://www.imdb.com ) for the summer’s upcoming film releases, and IMO this summer looks like its going to be a real drought. The only thing that looks remotely interesting is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and even it doesn’t seem like much of a departure from Michael Cera’s previous films. Everything else is either a remake, a sequel (Iron Man 2 looks like it will be an epic fail), or something I could care less about.
Am I too pessimistic about this summer’s line-up? Is there anything flying under the radar that might be really exciting? Make your case to change my mind.
Cera was a bad choice for Scott Pilgrim, IMHO. But I’m just a crazy comic nerd.
We’re still well within the age of comics.
Iron Man 2
Jonah Hex
Kick Ass
And of course we have Toy Story 3, Sex and the City 2, and Prince of Persia. And I’m loathe to even mention Sorcerers Apprentice.
Summer is not about art, my friend. It’s all about spectacle….
I’m keen for Scott Pilgrim (maybe just for some sweet sweet Chris Evans eye candy
). I have heard from early reviews that Cera is more ‘Bugs Bunny-ish’ in this role and that he actually does a pretty good job of the character and that the trailers are barely anything to go by. Keen for Kick Ass and Iron Man 2 as well.
Is ‘The Losers’ a good comic doc? Might also be worth my while again for more CE

30 times yes to the Losers.
I can’t wait till Toy Story 3. Looks pretty cool. I sound childish i know lol.
We’re gonna see the new twilight with my gf this summer. I don’t know if there will be good french movies that will be released…
I almost forgot!
There’s also the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, AAAAAND...
Avatar: The Last Airbender.
I’ve been waiting for that movie for three or more years.
A french film has been released : Adele blanc sec.
They told it’s good…If one day it’s released abroad in small cinemas ![]()
I think I am seeing Iron Man 2 tomorrow. Apparantly international release comes before the US realease. Shall let you know how it goes.
I still haven’t seen Date Night, despite being a massive fan of both Steve Carrell and Tina Fey. Hopefully I’ll get to see it this week some time. Has anyone seen it already?
Haven’t seen Date Night, but from all reviews I’ve heard it apparantly is a not so great movie. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 68% and says that Fey and Carrell are still pretty strong it it. I think I’ll wait for DVD.
I did see Iron Man II the other day, and it was great. Fairly predictable in most parts, but plenty of action and pretty fast paced so it kept you interested. Scarlett Johansson isn’t in as much of the film as is suggested in the trailers though, but her character will probably feature in the Avengers movie. They also drop a few easter eggs into the film that hint towards the next few films such as feauring a certain shield and a hammer (make sure you watch after the credits!).
Thinking that Prince Of Persia might be my next trip to the movies.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
New Scott Pilgrim trailer looks aiiiiiii-maiiiii-zing!
SAW TOY STORY 3 LAST NIGHT!
So good. I must admit I shed a tear or two during some of the scenes, there were two in particular, which I can’t really say because we don’t have spoiler tags. My friend cried even more, and then told me afterwards that she hadn’t even seen the first 2 movies.
Definitely go see it, especially if you enjoyed the others. If you do plan to take a youngin along with you, do note that they may get scared during some scenes.
I’m looking forward to some of the other releases coming out soon too. Megamind and Tangled both look like fun.
I’ve only just seen Toy Story 2 for the first time, but am looking forward to the third. Anyone seen the new Shrek yet?
