I would like to find out what the general views are on the shared public albums in the Media section. By that I’m not referring to each user’s public album, but the albums to which anyone can upload – showing size comparisons or famous tall people. Are they a good idea? are they not? Would you like them changed, removed, or to stay the same? Please add your feedback to this topic.
Honestly, I’m not a fan. Some of the uploads seem innocent enough, but occasionally some will start to push the envelope with what kinds of pics are uploaded. This includes some that are photoshopped in favor of the macro community. I hate to pull a Mary Whitehouse, but with more than a few minors on this site, such pics should be delegated to the users pvt folder to share with friends. Or even one that is only accessible through a specific group.
In addition to that, not having those folders would hopefully lessen the pic-robbing from myspace and facebook profiles of tall ppl that aren’t on this site. Many of whom I’m sure would be upset if they happened upon this site and saw their private pictures on display. I’ve made the mistake of adding certain folk to my fb, and ended up having my friends list raided. Once they added my friends, their pictures showed up here in various ways.
There’s plenty enough of online petting zoos to get ones fill of 7-footers without this having to be one of them. I say jettison ‘em, or lock ‘em into a group.
Yeah, I don’t think they have much of a purpose.
I’m not too fussed by most of them.
I guess the fact that peoples images are being posted without their permission is a bit iffy though. Some of those images as docfat said, are not in public domain and would weird me out too if people were pulling pictures off my personal pages for whatever reason and reposting them.
I agree with the prevailing sentiment here. Most of the shared albums don’t have much purpose, and they only serve as a vehicle for illegitimate “pic-trading” and the like. I would much rather have a site without them IMO.
I don’t use them and I don’t plan on using them. I totally agree with dev’
