To continue improving the new site, I have begun creating a brand new chatroom. The new chatroom doesn’t rely on Flash or Java, so should work on any modern browser with no loading time. It also works on most smartphones.
I’d love to hear some of your ideas for what could be done to improve the current chatroom, to give me a guideline for the new one.
One of the main features of the new chatroom will be each private conversation will be in a separate window, allowing the main chatroom to fill the page. I’m also aiming to have the new foe lists be automatic ignore settings while in the room.
Hey this is great news. The improvement you mentioned about the foe list is what I would’ve suggested.
It sure is. One concern with current and hopefully it won’t be with the new chat area. With private conversations, when the person leaves, their message box goes away. Would be nice to have it so you have to close the box the message is in.
Yeah, there have been convos with good friends of mine I’d have liked to keep, but they’d suddenly be kicked out and come in again, and the whole PM would be gone forever. Having the PM box stay open if they’re in the chatroom or not’d be good. And glad to hear you’re still working tirelessly to improve the website. Things are going really well. Thanks for the hard work, Admin. We appreciate it.
The new chatroom will fix private conversations getting removed upon deletion. In fact, each private message conversation will have a history that can be viewed for a certain amount of time.
At least, that’s the plan at the moment.

Just a little critique
One thing after trying it I would say, it was rather difficult to change the options, as the option popup didn’t have a scroll bar. Also, notifying people that they’ll need quicktime player would have been helpful.

do not like it either. smiles look terrible. would be nice to be able to make font bold. If there are many people in the room at once, the names and pictures are going to take up a huge amount of space on a screen. either some major changes or go back to the prior.
new issue I just identified: occasionally, when I’m typing messages in the main chat, it doesn’t show up on my screen, but other people see them.
also, it’d be nice to have sounds when people type a message or come into the room. I don’t always have the chat window at the front, so the sounds are good to let me know I might want to check the page.
Apparently you whiny types didn’t read anything the admin wrote. “Far from finished” means he’s still working on it, so instead of sounding like spoiled children, you might have some patience and politely suggest new features.
I really like the new chatroom – it loads in seconds and is fast to use. Plus I haven’t been disconnected at all yet.
It’s good not having the private messages on the same screen, before that used to get really cluttered and annoying. The way the requests come up is awesome – you can ignore incoming private messages easily. What happens if a foe does it?
I really like the big clean display and the userlist with the icons. Are we going to have a status thing like on the old chat? like BRB/Away and stuff. That’s my main request at the minute.
After a bit of practicing recently with the chatroom, I have found it fast, easy to use and very pleasant. The different colour fonts show up loud and clear, whereas before people used to have trouble with that, the PM idea is very good, the windows work nicely, and being able to ignore PMs is going to be a godsend for those that get pestered a lot. The only thing I would say, and this may just be me, but after getting a PM accepted, you have to click on the “view chat” link to open the PM box. I strongly suspect that automatic opening of PM boxes after request confirmation is something already in the pipeline, but if not, I would suggest it.
Automatic open would be cool if you’re the one that requested it, yeah. I’d also like if the private window had a link to the other person’s profile, and if the user list had a count of the people in the room.
My demands must be met…
