You mean in having access to the chatroom via an IRC client too?
Yeah, it would be cool to access from mIRC, Colloquy, whatever – like you can use different browsers w/ the Internet, you can use different clients with IRC! The Web-based one is nice, but a bit clunky on mobile devices. I guess there might be an issue syncing PMs – but not if the Web-based chat were an IRC client itself. :)
I don’t know how much work I’m asking you to undertake though, so feel free to say no. Just a thought.
I appreciate what you mean, unfortunately this is not something I will be doing to the chatroom.
The chatroom runs on completely custom-built code, and is designed to be fast and secure. IRC simply adds too much overhead and would slow the chatroom down for everyone. In addition, it opens up the possibilities of chatbots and other security concerns.
However, I am considering opening the chatroom code up as open-source software to gain other ideas and improvements to the work that has been done already.
Open-source sounds cool … I hope to be able to contribute to a mobile solution!
hello. i try to connect to chat and this message displays:
Warning: mysql_query(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/tmg/public_html/chatroom/config.php on line 16
do you know what i have to do?
thanks…
This problem should now be cleared up for you. It may only have affected anyone joining the chatroom for the first time.
Admin,
Great job on the site and all the improvements that have been implemented.
I’m still having issues with the chat. I’ve selected the “Disable Popup” in the Chatroom Options dialog, but the main chat window still brings itself to the foreground. It’s difficult to talk in private chat or type anything in another window because any activity forces the chat window to the front. (even while I’m typing this)
I’m using Windows XP and IE8.
Thanks.
I’ve performed (what I hope is) a small re-tune of the chatroom server. Hopefully it should reduce instances where you will type something that others can see, but that you cannot. There may now be a slight delay between typing a message and it appearing, but this is part of the change.
The issues with Internet Explorer – specificially IE8 – still persist, unfortunately I haven’t had much time to work on that. The issue being the ‘popping up’ of the window even when the option is disabled. It is not a problem with the chatroom, which functions properly under all other browsers, but a fault in Internet Explorer which I cannot trace. If you have another browser, please do use it in the meantime.
I haven’t noticed any dropped stuff now and that was my main annoyance with the chatroom.
Anyone using Internet Explorer will now receive a message informing them of the problems they may encounter, and offer ways of helping. Google Chrome Frame can be installed within Internet Explorer to fix the problems it has running Javascript code correctly.
What do want?
The death of Internet Explorer!
When do we want it?
Now plz!
I try to use the test chat room and get the following message: Members Only This chat room is members only. You do not have the right access privileges to continue.
The chatroom is being worked on. I’ll update you when it is available for testing again.
