Oversized shoes true?

Can anyone vouch for this?

Step 1: Chucks

Serious gym rats already know that Converse Chuck Taylors are great for powerlifts and other basic exercises. The sole is thin and there’s hardly any arch support, ensuring that your foot makes close contact with the floor and learns to stabilize itself.

The trick is to buy a pair that’s one size too big, Hinds says. That’s because most of us instinctively choose shoes that are tight and restrictive, which defeats the purpose. (Converse encourages this “restrictive” mindset on its website by telling men to buy Chuck Taylors that are a half-size smaller than their other shoes.)

“It’s like me wrapping some duct tape around your hand before you do a handstand, taping your thumb in,” Hinds explains. “You have no ability to activate the arches of your hand because your thumb is in and all your weight is going to collapse on your hand.”

Wearing oversized Chucks will feel weird at first, like a day in the life of Sideshow Bob. You won’t want to do anything that requires running, jumping, or agility. But a funny thing starts to happen when you give your feet some room to spread out. After a few weeks, they’ll literally spread out.
They only feel weird for a while.

“I used to wear a size 12, and now I wear a size 14,” Hinds says. “I allowed my feet to spread to the actual size they’re supposed to be.”

I used to wear a size 10 in college, and started wearing adidas superstars that were 1-2 sizes bigger. It took a while, but eventually started filling em up. Now I’m up to wearing 14s.
A few weeks seems unreasonable though. It took me closer to 2 years per size increase.

I wore size 13 in 7th grade and thought I needed to move up to 14 in 9th. Then I went back to 13 in college, and since then I’ve found I can get by with a 12 or even an 11 in some cases. Wearing bigger shoes did nothing to grow my feet. And physically, it’s impossible because your bones can’t stretch out from being exposed to a bigger sole.

The one advantage of wearing larger shoes is that if you happen to have flat feet you do get more arch support, so maybe that’s where the feeling of “filling out” your bigger shoes comes from. I think that’s why I wore such big shoes in high school.

I think it would only change the amount of arch you have in your foot, and I’d assume it would take a long time for that.

Also, unless you wear shoes 24/7, I can’t imagine that wearing tight shoes is that bad, unless they are tight enough to restrict blood flow.

Shoes that are too big usually slip off the back of my foot and make my foot work harder to walk properly which is often really awkward.

Losing weight has caused my shoe size to decrease. I’ve gone from a 13 to an 11.5 or 12 depending on the shoe. My foot isn’t any shorter as far as I know, but they have definitely narrowed which allow me to wear smaller shoes.

I feel like I’m shorter as well, but I’m sure that’s due to my haircut. :D

Interesting, fate. I lost weight in college that I had gained in high school. Maybe that explains why I needed 14s then but only 12 now.
