Buying shoes
Posted by markspi75 on Sep 4th 2009

Hey guys. We always read about how difficutl it is for tall people with huge feet to find shoes. Here something different. I went buying shoes with my brother, who, believe it or not, wears only size 7. When he asked for his size, the guy in the store said they only had shoes from size 8 up, and that he needed to check the kid departement for such a small size. I felt embarassed for him … Anyone here with similar stories?

Uk size 7+ corresponds to US size 8+ ... so, it is pretty much the same. I bet you were wearing size 7 as a child, he he.

I think size 6-13 is usually what is available in Australia for men’s shoes, as it is the most commonly bought. To stock anything outside of it might be a waste for most stores unless they only sell shoes.

It may be had to believe but men’s shoes start at a size 3 in the USA. I don’t ever remember having a foot that small – 8-1/3” long. I have friends that only take a size 9 or 10 shoe and theirs look like little kids shoes compared to mine. I can’t imagine only having taking only a size 3 shoe.

I believe size 3 is for kids, isnt it tallguy7387? I mean, I wear size 8 and every time I buy shoes I can find them in the men section, but I know it is one of the smallest size. And what happen with my size 7 brother confirmed that … right? It would be interesting to hear from people here wearing small sizes … I believe tallguy7387 was buying hoes form the men section even as a kid. am I right? :)

I had a major growth spurt in 2nd grade, and my size 5 shoes started hurting my feet. When I made it into the kids’ shoe store, the employee informed me I’d have to go visit the men’s store because I had reached size 8!

What really made me mad for awhile is when I was younger I was too big for kids shoes but I needed like a 6 1/2 Mens but everyone started stocking at a 8. Was most annoying.

I had the size 7 issue….but luckily I was able to find a size 7.5
which they had to order from a store in their district. took 2 days but I got me some shoes. The other store was only 30 minues but the poor shoe slaes person worked on commission… I was embarrassed when he asked me if i liked any of the kids shoes… he tried to pass them off as adult shoes until I labeled them as kids shoes and thats when he quietly said ummm sir they actually are…
but i survived.

I am wodering why is this happening. I mean, are kids wearing such big sizes that makes more than few adults in this type of situations? And I include myself wearing size 8US, which will be soon not considered an adult size anymore … thoughts?

Improved nutrition and better health conditions allow people to reach their full genetic potential making it seem that the population is getting taller (and having larger feet also).

I believe genetics has its role too. I had good nutrition and life style while growing up, but it didnt help much. LOL.

I end up having to buy shoes that are wide as well. In the US the rating is by E and my last pair was, like a EEEE. Oddly enough If I can find a width that size I only need a 13 or 14 US in length so that rocks. Otherwise I am walking around in clown shoes with my toes half way down the 16 or 17 shoe.
